Vizio Makes Internet Television A Reality.

Vizio is much more than a maker of cheap television sets. Vizio is based out of Irvine, CA. They are the No. 1 High Definition Television company in the United States. Vizio is looking to make the Television the next big internet device and guess what? They’re going to pull it off. While in the midst of creating this vision, they are also creating a wealth of opportunities for developers and a whole new world for consumers.

Vizio’s strategy for their new top of the line TVs is breathtaking. The XVT models as they are referred to, will roll out in the 4th quarter of 2009. They feature a new technology that Vizio has coined as smart dimming. The technology involved shutting down portions of the LED back lighting to create astonishing images.

The greatest part of the new line of XVT televisions is what they are going to be doing for internet connectivity. Vizio is hell bent on making the TV an accessible internet platform just and the PC and mobile phone have become. They might be on the right track.

With all their plans to put the TVs on the information superhighway, Vizio isn’t just slamming Ethernet cords in the back of TVs. They’ve installed top of the line 802.11n on many of the new XVT series sets. Considering that everybody doesn’t have their router positioned near their television, a Wi-Fi enabled TV is a welcome addition. Plus its pretty cool that you can connect to the net without wires.

Vizio is going above and beyond to insure the success of not only Yahoos widget channel, but they as supporting Adobe Flash apps. Develops and companies alike can build apps in either environment that are playable on the TV sets. A number of big name companies have signed on to develop the do dads that will be hosted on the Yahoo widget channel although Vizio has been the only company that supports Yahoo and Adobe.

Unlike the PC, you wont have to change programs in order to use Yahoo apps or Adobe apps. Bother will be blended together into one interface in the Vizio set. Vizio’s aim is to get as many consumers on board so that so that developers and companies alike can showcase the new technology on a wide stage.

Some of the developers which have jumped on the Vizio bandwagon include Facebook, Twitter, EBay, Showtime, Netflix and Rhapsody who signed an exclusive deal with Vizio. At the launch of Vizio’s VXT models there will be around 20 apps users can play with. By the end over 2010 there will be over 1000. Vizio’s goal isn’t to try to recreate the internet browser, but developers will be making apps that work well with TV. Vizio wants to turn TV into an app platform similar to what the Iphone has become.

This almost begs the question, is the next XVT line of televisions a new line or computers or a new line of TV. The new TVs will come with 2GB of flash memory as well as a Bluetooth remote. The funny thing about the Bluetooth remote is that it will come with a slide out QWERTY keyboard to help search the web as well as play games. Vizio’s lineup is going to truly be revolutionary to say the least.
