Printing service is used by most organizations for varied functions such as marketing and corporate communications. Offset printing is the most frequently used printing technique and learning about it is therefore helpful and important.
The clients and the printers like offset printing due to its cost effectiveness for printing of large number of prints. Hence for bulk orders any good printing company would advise you to go for offset printing.
The ink employed during offset printing has oil as the medium and is insoluble in water. In offset printing, rubber blankets act as intermediate for copying the image on the paper, which is to begin with on the plate.
The first step is developing the images. Earlier the images were prepared by creating film negatives and were then transferred to printing plates made of aluminum. This is no longer needed as the technology exists for making the plates in one step through an image setting system. This plate is then put on a cylinder with the correct side up. Thereafter water, and then ink, is spread on the image plates. The ink is spread over the image and to restrict it from overflowing, a thin layer of water is put over the remaining part of the plate.
Next, the image is inverted when it is transmitted to a rubber blanket which is stuck to another cylinder. After that, sheets of paper of desired dimensions are put together and the rubber blankets transfer the image to the sheets on a third cylinder, where it comes out as the right side.
Printed sheets are stapled, pasted, or assembled in any other way as needed and the printing company delivers them after giving some finishing touches.
