The Road to Improved Job Search

I know many people, myself included, who have had problems performing a local job search on some various job search websites. I’ve become quite frustrated when the only job openings that popped up were more almost in neighboring states!

All websites function differently, so you have to choose which ones to use at your own discretion. Some are very specific with the search criteria and categories. Others only let you input certain information.

When I have done a local job search in the past, it was those websites with broad options that aggravated me the most. I would be directed to job openings nearly 50 miles away from my house, which wasn’t very convenient as I lived in the suburbs at the time and relied on public transportation.

I don’t think I’m alone when I say I prefer to use sites that let me choose very specific categories and distance variables. However, some of the job search websites out there don’t offer these options.

When I ran into this obstacle in the past, I simply started looking through local newspapers and job boards. However, this isn’t always the best tool because even local businesses don’t always advertise in the newspapers anymore!

Thankfully, since then, many of these job search websites have enhanced their search options. Their distance variables aren’t as broad as they used to be, which helps out so much with a local job search.

It’s not even just the distance criteria that needed work. There are some job search websites that are offering all sorts of new search options and tools. I remember when many of the sites only had a handful of search options, which then led to hundreds of jobs popping up on your search.

It’ll be interesting to see what other enhancements appear in the near future. I know many of these websites have yet to improve other search options as well as add new categories to their menus.
