The Legend of Rainmaking and Your brand
Rain- seems like that’s what we got for the majority summer! At what point did New York and Seattle trade places and I had no clue?
As rain was the primary topic of discussion for most of us Northeasterners the beginning of the Summer, it brings to mind a lesson on Branding I learned from Dr. Benjamin Mack which co-incidentally he entitled How to Be a Rainmaker.
Over the next few articles or so I will make an effort to reveal some of the essential parts of this seminar which was comprised of three key sections: 1) Making lightning Strike, 2) How to keep the lightning striking and 3) How to Bottle your Lightning.
Those not aware of who Ben Mack is should know that he ranks is one of the big Kahunason Branding today in the country bar none! Mr. Mack (or should I say Dr. Mack) has held positions at some of the best advertizing agencies during his memorable professional undertakings. How does Vice President for Brand Strategy at one of the companies grab you?
In a nut shell what that means is he was in charge of a budget of ” billion dollars (now thats big money)! To me that signals someone who has some clout on Branding, do we see eye to eye? As well as being a professional magician, Ben Mack has worked magic for many companies over the years, and at age 19 was the beneficiary of the esteemed (if your into magic) Award of Merit given by the Magic Castle.
For those unfamiliar with what a rainmaker is, a rainmaker is an individual indian shaman not withstanding who instead of insuring a good harvest for his tribe brings increased revenue to his company by the use of his or her political clout, ability to attract customer therfore making the people he works for money.
As a marketer your primary function is to “up sell” people on their experience of reality. In Ben Mack’s book “Think Two Products Ahead” he speaks about how the most valuable branding really only occurs only when businesses think two products ahead rather than just thinking here and now and to build a profitable relationship with your clients or customers through your Brand. The section where Ben teaches how to construct your Legend Platform is worth much more than the price of the book itself!
The “Brand” (called YOU) is built by using legends or tales that are told over and over and gain strenght with time. These stories should be allowed to say the opposite of what the others say and will increase as the stories get older. So, if you had to make a choice of the type of story you use to make your business shine like a diamond (you are reading articles like this to help you right?) why not let them be legends. A Legendary business is a profitable one!
