I have been frustrated for a while with my bookkeeping and I wanted to share with you a shortcut that I found after a lot of trial and error. Everyone who starts or manages a business has ’higher priority’ things to do with their time than spend time on their accounting. All organisations have to pay special attention to their bookkeeping if they want to avoid problems.
When I first started my business my accountant advised or should I say insisted that I used a small business accounting software package developed by a company called Sage Software. Without even getting familiar with software I naively went ahead and bought the lowest cost version I could find. Looking back I am relieved I didn’t waste too much money on this as this software is possibly the worst and most unfriendly application I have ever used. OK my first piece of wisdom is that whenever you see the words accounting software proceed carefully as it definitely means the designer isassuming you understand a great deal about accounting.
Like me I know this simply isn’t the case for most small business owners and this inspired me to put aside time that I didn’t really have to search for a solution to make my work easier. The second piece of guidance I want to share with you is my discovery of a really straightforward and free web application called salesorder.com.
Definitely the best application I have discovered, salesorder.com works on the internet and is really well designed and of course lets me work anywhere I can connect to the web. Better still and the third piece of advice I want to tell you is that the team who work at salesorder.com are not just very knowledgeable of their system but they know a tremendous amount about the issues of operating a small business and have taught me the bookkeeping I need to know.
