An Education Might Help

Creativity alone won’t really support you in ANY field, much less fashion design. There’s always going to be a technical side. You need to know how clothing works, so to speak. You can’t just throw some doodles together, you also need to understand how to make your ideas a reality. When you’re rich and famous, you can hire people to figure that stuff out for you, but until then, you’ve got to be both a designer and a craftsman/craftswoman.

Be Open to Different Opportunities

If you’re one in a thousand, you might just start the next big fashion company and have your stuff being strutted on runways by the likes of Tyra Banks. If you’re anything like everyone else, you’re going to have to figure out some more practical ways to pay the bills. Don’t be so proud as to turn your nose up at a good opportunity. Let’s say you wind up getting hired to design costumes for an indie film or a rock band, or you land a job designing suits for a department store. Hey, it’s work, and it’s work in your chosen field.
