How You Can Improve Your Website
Many professional designer and developers spend a lot of there hard earned precious time to find better ways to present out ideas in the form of websites. While there is no definitive rule book, there are a number of thing that you should consider, if you are serious about pumping out effective visuals and concepts on your sites.
It is very important that your website has something important and unique to offer. Your site might look fantastic to the eye, but the actual theme or concept must be very clear and precise to the viewer within a few seconds. It is important to think about the psychology of web design in order to maximise your user experience.
Is your website actually interesting and compelling to the user ?. Think about your target market and decide on how you can narrow down your idea or theme so you can capture your visitors interest without providing too much information. Often the most simple and clear concepts are often the best, because they are direct and give the user less information to calculate.
Advertising can be very important for your sites image and revenue, but you need to make sure you keep a healthy balance between that and useful site content. Everywhere you go you will see examples of relevant content mixed in with advertising. T.V and magazines are perfect examples of this.
Think about how you can minimise the information you are presenting. Is it better to have less so that your visitors can take in the and store the data in there brain without feeling overwhelmed ? Have a look at Googles home page, then jump over to Yahoo. Then think about how you would react to each site and which one is likely to attract more visitors. The same applies to products, for example, the Ipod in relation to a Creative mp3. The concepts and principles are all the same, from websites to packaging.
It helps to avoid popups, because they have such a negative symobolism attached to them. If your site does have them, please take them off, because most people are programmed to delete them without ever considering the content.
It is important that you do not try to hard to attract your visitors to your product or service. Pushy sales people are often disregarded and avoided, so the idea is to be indifferent and throw out some bait, without laying all your cards down straight away. Give your visitors what they need or just enough to make them want to investigate more. If you put too much information on one page, then it looks like your trying too hard to sell your services.
