Advancing Your Travel Agent Career In The Future

A travel agent career may be considered dull by most people. Travel agents sit behind a desk all day and book airplane flights and trips for people they do not know all over the world. Travel agents must study and learn about flight connections and train schedules and the easiest and fastest way to get from point A to point B.

It is not all glamour and Paris, most of the work they do is about normal everyday travellers going to New York for a meeting and returning the next day. It is their duty to deal with the airlines, or bus lines or train lines so that their clients get to where they want to go on time and without a problem.

It is their duty to make connections fit one with the other; this is tricky especially when dealing with international flights where customs is involved. They must know a lot about customs activities in different countries so they can calculate enough time between flights so their clients do not have to wait for their connection too long.

Experienced travel agents are able to organize a three week trip for you and your family in Spain, with hotels, food, entertainment, car rentals, airplanes and all without moving from their desk in your home town. Not everybody can do this, not even with all the online technology we have today. It is really amazing how you tell them what you want and a couple of days later they make it true.

It is not an easy and glamorous job. Sometimes it is tough and you have to work with time zones and flight schedules to make your customers arrive from one place to another on time and fast. There are many factors that you must take into account to do this and then your experience will bring the trip together. People trust that you will put them on a plane at home and will fly them safely across the world.

Sometimes things get even more complicated when a person needs special food on the plane. Another one needs a wheel chair or special assistance in the airport; they need transportation outside the airport or any other type of assistance. Children sometimes fly alone and it is the travel agent who coordinates their arrival, reception by the airline which will make sure they are delivered to their parents.

It is a fun job if you enjoy travelling and learning about foreign lands. It is important that you speak at last two major languages plus your own. You must talk to the people n the hotels and airlines make friends and associates out of them. Many times a good friend can open for you a plane space which is otherwise closed. Small details make large palaces.
